In 2021, rising polarization left many young people feeling disconnected and uncertain about their civic agency. What began as a simple idea has grown into something much more significant. In 2024, we are proud to announce an organization designed by students, for students: Once And Future Citizen. Our first endeavour is a conference that aims to engage and empower New York City high schoolers to find their voices. This unique event offers a rare opportunity for youth to take the lead in shaping their civic understanding and future.
"By reimagining the teaching of the U.S. foundational documents, we seek to ignite a deep sense of civic responsibility in students and empower them to shape their communities with purpose and passion.”
Justin Khan is a senior in high school in New York City with a deep passion for government, politics, law, chemistry, and history. A Brooklyn native, Justin thrives in diverse environments that embrace a wide range of perspectives. Once and Future Citizen is a project he conceived and has diligently developed over the past year.
Motivated by a commitment to fostering civil discourse, Justin's first ambition for Once and Future Citizen is a conference to serve as a platform for students to engage with thought leaders and with each other. His efforts have been supported by a network of educators, political leaders, and peers who share his dedication to promoting healthy, constructive conversations.
Seeing this organization and conference come to life is a moment of great pride. Thank you for visiting our site, and if you’re interested in getting involved, please feel free to contact us.
